She joined the club in eleventh grade, out of her love for political affairs, specifically for Congress. This is where she discovered Youth in Government. Naledi attended high school in Delaware when she moved back to the states. She lives by the Botswana culture, through valuing “ubuntu.” Naledi says that the Botswana culture “has a lot of ‘ubuntu.’” A word that can not be characterized in english but is similar to that of being benevolent or selfless. She concerned herself with extra curricular activities such as, Sunbeams, Girl Scouts, and Birds of Africa ( a bird watching club where she observed different bird species of Africa.) Naledi was a fairly adventurous child she was always outside, either camping or spending time on her family farm were she raised cows. Naledi speaks more than one language and has been exposed to many different cultures. Naledi attended grade school at an english primary school, known as Boabab Primary School. When she was about six years old she moved to Gaborone, Botswana which is the capital of the landlocked country in Southern Africa. Gordy was born in Newark, Delaware but lived in Hockessin. “My name Naledi, means star in Setswana.” She told me. Although, her story does not start there. Naledi Gordy, a former Youth in Government club member, stepped in to mentor ninth and tenth grade students at Odyssey Charter High School who are affiliated with said club.
